The medical travel industry has emerged as one of the fastest growing segment of tourism industry despite the global economic downturn. Asian countries like India, Malaysia, Thailand, Singapore medical tourism market is booming, India is one of the key medical tourism destinations in Asia with over 500,000 foreign patients getting treatment annually. India having target of 9 billion USD opportunities by 2020 through adequate focus and effective execution by medical tourism segment.

Nepal needs to focus on quality of treatment, implement international accreditation for safety of patient, develop international protocols, approach to international insurance through TPA modality, develop network of healthcare facilitator, collaboration and partnership with international hospitals to develop the medical tourism destination.
